When I think about the meaning of album names, some are pretty obvious in terms of what they symbolize, but others. . .well, not so much. One of my favorite albums of all time is The Wall from Pink Floyd. The wall is a reference that is fairly straightforward given the content and themes of that album.
The title I chose for this album is probably not as obvious for most people, so I’ll explain why I chose it.
108 Beads literally refers to Rudraksha beads, which are beads used by Hindus, Buddhists and others around the world.
For me, the set of Rudraksha beads I have represents calm and peace I my life. They are a symbol of where I was, where I am now and the journey that got me from there to here.
My music has been a similar journey. The process of inspiration and creation of these songs is linked directly to my journey through life thus far. From that journey came the music, so when it came time to name the album, my Rudraksha beads—all 108 of them—seemed to be the perfect way to capture the feeling.
About the Making of 108 Beads
I was fortunate enough to collaborate with Stёv Skye for the recording and production of this album, which was done at EPS Skye Studios in Phoenix. Stёv also helped me to re-arrange the music on each of the songs and truly bring them to life in ways I never thought possible. In fact, the guitars and other instruments are all Stёv. We share many of the same influences, both musically and spiritually, and he is not only an elite musician and producer, but he’s a genuinely kind soul.
Another interesting fact about 108 Beads is that the songs featured on this album have been selected by a major Hollywood film production company to be used in a selection of films which are currently in production.
